The history of the DOVISTA Group

DOVISTA A/S was established in 2004. But parts of the group have been active for more than 100 years. It is the year 1941, however, that marks the beginning of DOVISTA as we know it today.

In the summer of 1941, the young engineer Villum Kann Rasmussen started his own company: V. Kann Rasmussen & Co. One of his ambitions was to develop a roof window that could match the quality of the vertical windows of that time. Eventually, through a number of patented inventions, he arrived at the roof window that is today know throughout the world – the VELUX window.

But Villum Kann Rasmussen’s ambitions did not stop at roof windows. Alongside his work with skylighting, he also developed other inventions and components for the construction industry. And in 1952 he launched his first vertical window, which was registered and later trademarked as VELFAC.

After acquiring a number of other window manufacturers, V. Kann Rasmussen & Co became VKR Holding A/S, and in 2004 the VKR group combined all its activities for vertical windows in one company, DOVISTA A/S, established as an wholly owned subsidiary.

It was also around this time that the ideas leading to our strategy Distinctive Brands - Shared Excellence started to evolve. In other words, the start of the ongoing development and expansion of the DOVISTA Group, based on our goal of targeting a broad segment of customers, distribution channels and geographic areas.
